Five mods for Red Alert 2 you need to try (2024)
Red Alert 2 is now over 20 years old and it’s still being played today. It’s longevity is in part due to countless mods for the game that came out trough the years. The modding community is very much still alive so let’s take a look at five mods for Red Alert 2 you need to try in 2022!

As for the pinnacle of all of the Red Alert 2 mods: Mental Omega. This isn’t just a mod. It’s more than a game expansion.
It’s a re-imaging of the base game with added content. It has over 120 new missions! I could go on and on with all the new content and this article would never be over. At least three heroes for each faction. A completely new faction. New map theaters, props, weather, effects, awesome original soundtrack. If you haven’t played Mental Omega, download it and play it now!!

Next up is the Flipped missions mod. This is a Red Alert 2 mod that re-imagines the original campaign by changing the side you control. For example in RA2 first soviet mission you had to destroy the Pentagon. In flipped missions mod you’re tasked with defending it! Some of the missions are pretty straight forward when compared to the original versions, but others expand the map size, add multiple new objectives and even improve the Ai so the campaign is more of a challenge! It’s a simple mod in terms of added content but it’s a must play for every Red Alert 2 player!

Rise of the East is a Red Alert 2 mod that tries to recreate/include the C&C Generals factions/ campaign/ elements into RA2. Here you can play as China or GLA in skirmish matches, online and even some of the campaign missions are available to play trough. This mod is pretty much still in development stages, but updates are often and quite large so get your hands on it and crush the soviets with your GLA toxic tanks!

One of the better Red Alert 2 mods out there is the RA20XX mod. The author says it’s a tribute to old C&C games and a tries to give Red Alert 2 a new fresh feel. And it succeeds at both! The tribute is obvious with units from other games finding their way to Red Alert 2 factions, but they’re redesigned just enough to also feel fresh and unique not just a copy and paste. It also increases the difficulty of the Ai so it’s a there’s a challenge even when not playing online. The mod does have a few drawbacks like no campaign and the size of the infantry. But those are no reason not to try the mod. It’s fun as f**k!

Last on the list of Red Alert 2 mods is Final War. Despite being last on the list doesn’t mean it’s any worse than other mods on here. The mod offers a lot of new content, like new units for all factions, new awesome maps, better Ai and even a completely new and unique faction. The one thing I dislike about the mod is the confusing in-game sub-factions option. Where you can change the faction you’re using in the middle of the game. Maybe this game mechanic grows on you after you get to know all the new and redesigned units but at the start it’s confusing. The mod is still being updated so look for even more content in the future!
Is that all commander?
These are just five of Red Alert 2 mods you should try in 2022! Some of the mods that didn’t make the list are New War, Red Resurrection, Remastered campaign, Yuri Resurgence, C&C Reloaded just to name a few.
Some of them will be getting their own list soon. Like the “mission mods” list I’m planing to write!
Now go commander, try out these mods and I’ll see you on the battlefield!
