Where to download Red Alert 2 in 2023

Where to download Red Alert 2 (February 2022)

Red Alert 2 and it’s expansion Yuri’s Revenge are now over 20 years old. Sometimes such old games are made freeware and therefore available for free on the internet. One of these games is Tiberian Sun, released in 1999, that is now available for free. Unfortunately Red Alert 2 isn’t free yet, but there are a few places where you can buy the game, download and install it to your modern computer.

Origin - Ultimate collection

The most common place to buy and download Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge is from the Origin store. Origin store is EA’s game store and on that store you can find the “Ultimate Collection“. This is a bundle of all Command and Conquer games including Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge. So when you buy this collection you not only buy Red Alert 2 but 17 other C&C games. The last time I checked the collection was available for around 20$ but prices do change. So go on to the Origin store, buy the collection, download, install Red Alert 2 and I’ll see you on the battlefield!

Amazon - Code

You can also buy a code for this collection on Amazon and download it from there. The price is 20$ which I think it’s a fair offer for 17 games. You will however still need an Origin account to download and install Red Alert 2 and it’s expansion.

XWIS - Free Red Alert 2 multiplayer

There is a way to download and play Red Alert 2 multiplayer for free. There is a multiplayer distribution available that enables you to play online but not the campaigns. This is a legal version and for those of you interested in multiplayer this is an ideal solution. Go to Xwis forum here and download the necessary files. If you own the old CDs of the game and can’t install the game with those you can use this distribution instead of the CDs. Follow the tutorial here.

Abandonware

Red Alert 2 download

There’s a free version of the game available to download on Abandonware. I’ve downloaded the game from there and tried to play it. It had some unexpected errors but I corrected those with changing the compatibility mode to WinXp and tested the game with a skirmish match. It worked fine.  You can also download Yuri’s Revenge from Abandonware but it’s not free. The buy page redirects you to the Origin store and the Ultimate collection.

Others

There are other places that offer to download Red Alert 2 & Yuri’s Revenge but most are yous redirects to the Origin and the C&C Ultimate collection or to various mods. For example Kinguin & Eneba offer codes for the collection just for 5$ or 10$ but I’ve never used those services so I can’t vouch for their quality or legitimacy. In my opinion going to Origin and buying the collection is the safest and most reliable way to get Red Alert 2 these days.
