Red Alert 2 & Yuri’s Revenge how to add a map

You’ve successfully downloaded a map! Great! Now How to add a map to your Red Alert 2 and what to do with it to make it work. Well it depends:

A) I use the CnCNet client to play RA2 & YR.

Lucky you! The steps are quite simple! You only need to extract the maps using winrar or any other tool and place the map in the custom maps folder. Where is that? Well find your Red Alert installation. In that folder you should find another folder called MAPS. Open that folder and inside you will find two more, one called CUSTOM and one called Yuri’s Revenge. Place the map you’ve downloaded in the CUSTOM folder.

Example: C:\Westwood\RA2\Maps\Custom

Most of the maps on this site have the .map ending ( file extension), those maps are ready to go. If the downloaded map has .yrm or .mpr ending then you need to change it to .map or the CnCNet client won’t recognize the map.

B) I don’t use the CnCNet client to play RA2 &  YR

To install maps you’ve found on this site you have to place the maps in the  folder where Red Alert 2 is installed. Typically, Red Alert 2 is installed at one of the following locations:

C:\Westwood\RA2\
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Red Alert(tm) II\RA2

However most of the maps on this site have .map ending. These maps won’t be recognized by the game. You’ll need to change the .map to .yrm for Yuri’s Revenge or .mpr for Red Alert 2.

Everymap is in a .RAR file. You need to extract that file using winrar or some other similar program first!
