Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 is a 2.5D real-time strategy developed by Westwood and was released in October 2000. It’s the sequel to Command & Conquer: Red Alert.  Set in the early 1970s, the story of Red Alert 2 picks up after the conclusion of the Allied campaign of the first game. By doing that it  ditches the idea of Red Alert begin a prequel to the C&C Tiberian Dawn. In September 2001, the expansion pack Yuri’s Revenge was released.

Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, as it’s predecessor, contains two playable factions: the Allies and the Soviets. Red Alert 2 single player campaign is made of 24 missions, 12 for each faction. However the story isn’t progressive like in Tiberian Sun Firestorm a year earlier, but it has alternate endings.

Red Alert 2 received an average rating of 84% according to Meta Critic. 

Plot

Red Alert 2 has two different story lines. Both the Allied and the Soviet campaign start after the events of Red Alert, in which the Soviets were defeated by the Allies.

After the first war Premier Alexander Romanov  was installed by Allied leaders to the position of Soviet premier and was to keep the USSR in peaceful relations with the West.  Unsatisfied with his role as a puppet of the allies Romanov, with the help of Yuri, planned to overthrow the Allies by attacking it’s main nation. The USA.

Allied campaign

The Allied campaign starts in New York with the Soviet invasion if full effect and the Statue of Liberty destroyed. As the allied commander you fight the soviets on battlefields all over the globe. You’ll be stopping the soviet fleet in New York,  destroying a mind control device in Chicago, infiltrating soviet Nuclear Silos in Siberia. You’ll go to Germany to save Einstein and try to capture the Kremlin in one of the final missions.

Soviet Campaign

The Soviet campaign begins with a large para-drop force taking over the Pentagon and therefore putting the Allied command in shambles. Through the soviet missions, you, the soviet comrade general, have to deal with the allied scum and their resistance to the soviet mighty war-machine. As well as some internal power struggles and betrayals. Do you have what it takes to lead the motherland to glory and world domination?

Gameplay

Singleplayer

Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 has two campaigns. One for the Allies and one for the Soviets. There also a short training campaign called “Boot Camp” that introduces new players to the game-play mechanics of Red Alert 2. Each main campaign has 12 missions.

The Allied campaign is considered canon, since it leads into the events of Yuri’s Revenge.

There is also a skirmish mode where the player can fight against computer-controlled opponents.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer allows to play Red Alert 2 online against other players all over the world.  You can play 1v1, team games, free for all & co-op on dozens of official maps and hundreds if not thousands of fan made maps. The easiest way to play online in 2021 is to download the Cncnet client.
